England Squad Verdict

Thomas Tuchel announced his latest England squad earlier today ahead of their Nations League games against Croatia and Spain.

There are two new faces to the squad in Jobe Bellingham and Josh King and there are also recalls for Djed Spence, Declan Rice and Ben White.

This is what I think of the squad.

I was very surprised that Jobe Bellingham was called up because I wasn't expecting him to be called up. He has played well for Dortmund this season, but I still didn't see him earning his first call up.

Josh King deserves his call up because he's having a good season with Fulham and has arguably been their best player so far this season. I wasn't expecting him to be called up because of other players being ahead of him in the pecking order, but he still deserves his call up.

In terms of the players that have been recalled, Djed Spence and Declan Rice were probably expecting to be recalled after missing the last international break due to injury. Spence was a standout performer for England at the World Cup during the summer and is in good form for Inter Milan whlst Rice is one of the first names on the teamsheet.

Ben White's recall was a surprise to me because I wasn't expecting him to be in the squad due to other players being ahead of him in the pecking order. But he does deserve to be recalled because he's been in good form for Arsenal recently.

As for the rest of the squad, I was surprised to see Cole Palmer left out because I was very much expecting him to be back in squad due to the form he;s been in for Chelsea this season.

I was also surpirsed to see Jason Steele get picked because he's not first choice for Brighton and I was expecting Dean Henderson to be chosen ahead of him.

But I can understand why Henderson hasn't been picked because he recently came back from an injury and he probably didn't want to risk himself picking up another one.
