Should Man City have offered Kevin De Bruyne a new contract?
We all know that Kevin De Bruyne is leaving Man City at the end of the season with his current contract up this summer.
Since he announced his decision to leave the club, he's reminded everyone of his qualities and he did so again against Wolves with his well taken goal.
Should City have offered him a new contract?
It is understandable why City didn't offer him a new contract as he's getting on a bit at the age of 33 and a lot of people were thinking that he doesn't have the same influence on games as he used to.
But he's shown recently that he still has plenty to offer and can still play for one of the top teams in Europe. Alan Shearer certainly thinks so after saying that he is still good enough to play for one of the top six in the Premier League on both Match of the Day and BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.
Shearer definitely has a point there as De Bruyne still possesses those moments of quality which he has shown in the games since announcing his departure.
He may not play every week due to his recent injury troubles and his age, but he can still play a big role for his team due to the brilliant player he is.
If he puts in brilliant performances in the games between now and the end of the season, City may think that they should've offered him a new deal.
Is Cole Palmer back to his best?
Cole Palmer finally ended his long goal drought at the weekend with his penalty against Liverpool where he was the best player of the pitch.
He was involved in the lead up to Chelsea's first two goals, and was at the heart of everything Chelsea did when they went forward.
Could this be a sign that he's back to his best?
His performances during his goal drought were never in question as he was always looking to contribute and make a difference for his team.
But all that was missing was the goals and his lack of goals could've been down to either bad luck or lack of confidence.
It was more down to bad luck as he was always looking to contribute but didn't get the goals or assists that some of his performances deserve.
Lack of confidence may have played a part as well as the longer his drought went on, the more his confidence dipped. But I never saw his drought down to lack of confidence as he was always playing well wanting to contribute.
If a lack of confidence did play a part, his goal and performance against Liverpool will definitely help him restore it as goals are what give attacking players confidence along with good performances.
If he can play like he did against Liverpool in Chelsea's remaining games this season, we could say that he's back to his best.
Chelsea defeat highlights lack of depth for Liverpool
Liverpool made six changes to their team against Chelsea on Sunday and I could understand why as they've already got the title wrapped up, and Arne Slot wanted to give some of his fringe players an opportunity.
But the move backfired as none of the players who came in stepped up with Jarell Quansah giving away the late penalty which Cole Palmer converted, Kostas Tsimikas barely offered anything at both ends, Curtis Jones was at fault for the first two goals due to him slipping, Waturo Endo gave the defence very little protection, Harvey Elliott didn't really offer a lot, and Diogo Jota barely offered anything up top.
Their defeat to Chelsea was a sign that they lack depth and will need to strengthen their squad as well as their starting 11, as I mentioned last week.
The Chelsea game wasn't the only time their squad depth let them down this season with the other game being their FA Cup exit to Plymouth back in February. They made wholesale changes for that game and like against Chelsea, the decision backfired due to the players coming in failing to step up.
Ryan Gravenberch was a big miss in midfield against Chelsea as they missed his ability to win the ball back and carry the ball up the pitch. A back up for him in particular will be needed this summer as Endo is getting on at 32, and failed to step up in the Dutchman's absence.
I mentioned last week that they need a left back and a striker and after seeing their fringe players disappoint against Chelsea, they'll also need to buy players as cover in other positions so they can have the squad depth to go again.
West Ham and Potter waiting for the summer
West Ham haven't really got going since Graham Potter took over as they've won just three times since and are in a lower position than they were when he arrived.
We shouldn't start questioning him yet as the the group of players he's managing isn't his and they're not used or suited to his style of football.
Both he and West Ham are waiting for the summer to come round as that will be when he brings in his own players and builds the team in his image.
They've had an easily forgettable season this season which they'll want to put behind them and once the season is over, Potter will immediately turn his attention to building his team for next season.
