I would normally do a European football related top 10 later in the week but with this week being a Champions League week, I've decided to do it the other way round and do a Champions League related top 10.

This week's European football top 10 is Champions League Comebacks.

There have been many incredible and iconic comebacks in the Champions League throughout the history of the competition and they're what make the competition so special.

When you think of a comeback you immediately think of one during a game but the most memorable comebacks in the Champions League have come over two legs.

We have seen a number of comebacks which took place during games like the 2005 and 1999 Champions League finals and a number of other games during the group or league phases.

But the majority of comebacks in the Champions League have come over two legged ties and the majority of them are on the list.

Now here is the list:

Barcelona 6-1 PSG (6-5) - 2017

Liverpool 3-3 AC Milan - 2005

Ajax 2-3 Tottenham (3-3*) - 2019

Roma 3-0 Barcelona (*4-4) - 2018

Man United 2-1 Bayern Munich - 1999

Liverpool 4-0 Barcelona (4-3) - 2019

PSG 1-3 Man United (3-3*) - 2019

Chelsea 4-1 Napoli (5-4) - 2012

Deportivo La Coruna 4-0 AC Milan (5-4) - 2004

Real Madrid 3-0 Wolfsburg (3-2) - 2016

  1. Real Madrid 3-0 Wolfsburg (3-2)

Real Madrid were trailing 2-0 from the first leg of their Quarter Final against Wolfsburg and they completed the comeback via a Cristiano Ronaldo hat trick.

Ronaldo's first two goals came within two minutes of each other around half way through the first half when he got on the end of Dani Carvajal's low cross to score his first in the 15th minute before heading home Toni Kroos' corner in the 17th minute.

He completed his hat trick towards the end of the second half when he bent his free kick through the wall and into the bottom corner to seal the comeback for Real Madrid.

The pressure was on Real to respond after losing the first leg and they responded brilliantly by starting the game on the front foot and keeping it up for the entire game.

  1. PSG 1-3 Man United (3-3*)

PSG have been involved in a number of collapses in the Champions League over the years and this one is one of two that made it onto the list.

They were leading the tie 2-0 going into the second leg of their last 16 tie against Man United and I think everyone was expecting them to go through.

Romelu Lukaku scored twice in the first half to put United right back in the tie with his two goals coming either side of Juan Bernat's effort which kept PSG in front heading into stoppage time.

But PSG weren't able to hold on as Presnel Kimpembe stuck out his arm to give away a penalty which was brilliantly struck by Marcus Rashford won the tie for United on away goals.

This was the game that got Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the full time job as permanent Man United manager.

  1. Chelsea 4-1 Napoli (5-4)

Chelsea went into the second leg of their last 16 tie against Napoli 3-1 down which gave them the tough ask of turning this tie around.

They started the game brightly and on the front foot with Didier Drogba's header putting them ahead on the night before John Terry headed home Frank Lampard's corner just two minutes into the second half to level the score on aggregate.

But the tie appeared to be over when Napoli pulled one back through Gokhan Inler who put them 4-3 up on aggregate.

But Chelsea levelled the score again when Frank Lampard scored from the penalty spot to take the game to extra time during which the blues won it through Branislav Ivanovic's goal.

This game was Roberto Di Matteo's second or third match in charge of Chelsea after he replaced Andre Villa Boas, who managed the first leg and was sacked a few weeks later.

  1. Ajax 2-3 Tottenham (3-3*)

Ajax were leading their semi final against Spurs 1-0 on aggregate and they appeared to make sure of their place in the final by going 3-0 up through goals from Matthijs De Ligt and Hakim Ziyech.

But from out of nowhere Spurs pulled off an incredible comeback via a Lucas Moura hat trick which sealed their place in the final on away goals.

Moura's first two goals came four minutes apart from each other just before the midway point in the second half before he completed his hat trick and the comeback in stoppage time.

This game had pretty much everything in goals, drama and an incredible comeback and it was a game that Spurs fans will never forget.

  1. Man United 2-1 Bayern Munich

I've written about this game a few times when doing these Champions League's top 10's and it's getting yet another mention in this one.

Man United went behind after just six minutes through Mario Basler's free kick and were second best for the majority of the final.

Bayern looked all but set to win the final heading stoppage time up until Teddy Sheringham got on the end of Ryan Giggs' cross to level the score before flicking on David Beckham's corner towards Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who poked home the winner for United just a couple of minutes later.

This was arguably the most exciting end to a Champions League final and one of the greatest moments in Champions League history as well.

  1. Roma 3-0 Barcelona (*4-4)

Barcelona were leading their Quarter Final against Roma 4-1 on aggregate and I think a lot of people were expecting them to see themselves through to the semi finals.

But Roma did what no one saw coming in completing an unlikely comeback by winning the second leg 3-0 to win the tie on away goals.

They went in front after just six minutes through Edin Dzeko's goal which set the tone for them and gave them the momentum to go on and win the game.

They built on that momentum in the second half as Daniele De Rossi scored from the penalty spot before Kostas Manolas scored at the back post to send Roma through to the semi finals.

This game was Barca's first big collapse in the Champions League and marked the start of their decline.

  1. Deportivo La Coruna 4-0 AC Milan (5-4)

I should've had this game on Champions League shocks because this result truly was one massive shock.

Deportivo La Coruna had no world stars in their side and were a small club in stature compared to Milan who at the time were the holders and had a team full of stars in Maldini, Cafu, Nesta, Kaka, Seedorf, Gattuso, Pirlo and Shevchenko.

After losing the first leg of this Quarter Final 4-1 at the San Siro, Deportivo from out of nowhere pulled off an incredible comeback to win the tie 5-4 on aggregate.

They went 3-0 up at half time to level the score on aggregate before Fran made sure of the win in the second half to seal one of the most unlikely comebacks.

Deportivo have fallen away so much ever since and now now playing their trade in the Spanish second division.

  1. Liverpool 4-0 Barcelona (4-3)

One of the greatest comebacks and most iconic moments the Champions League has ever seen.

Barcelona appeared to have one leg in the final after winning the first leg of this semi final 3-0 at the Nou Camp and they probably thought that as well.

But Liverpool, backed by their raucous home crowd, came flying out the traps from the get go and believed that they could pull off the impossible.

They took the lead after just seven minutes when Divock Origi scored and after Giorginio Wijnaldum stepped off the bench to score twice, Origi scored yet again from that quickly taken corner corner by Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Barca collapsed against Roma the year before and that result gave Liverpool belief that they could off this comeback.

The atmosphere inside Anfield was incredible and it was Anfield at its brilliant best on a European night.

  1. Liverpool 3-3 AC Milan

I've written about this game quite a few times when doing these Champions League's top 10's and it's getting yet another mention in this one.

The game looked good as over at half time as Milan were 3-0 up and well in control of the game because of how dominant they were.

But from out of nowhere, an average at best Liverpool side pulled off one incredible comeback against one of the best Milan sides of all time.

Steven Gerrard single handedly inspired the reds to pull off this comeback and it was his header that started it off before goals from Vladimir Smicer and Xabi Alonso sealed the comeback to take the game to penalties.

Liverpool would go to win on penalties in what was and still is the greatest Champions League final of all-time.

  1. Barcelona 6-1 PSG (6-5)

Barcelona's comeback against PSG had to be my no.1 because for me it's the greatest comeback in Champions League history and one of the most iconic moments in the history of the competition.

The tie was good as over after PSG won the first leg of this last 16 tie 4-0 and I think a lot of people thought that too.

But Barca never gave up hope that they could turn it around as they started the game on the front foot and brightly and their bright start set the tone for their performance.

The comeback was definitely on after they went 3-0 up following Lionel Messi's penalty before Edinson Cavani got a goal back for PSG to deal a blow to their chances.

But Barca kept on going as Neymar scored twice to level the score 5-5 on aggregate before setting up Sergi Roberto for the all important winner deep into stoppage time.

For Barca to pull off this comeback was just incredible and it might even be the greatest comeback in the history of football.

For PSG it was an example of them imploding on the big stage and easily their biggest one because of how far ahead they were in the tie heading into this second leg.

MY TOP 10:

  1. Barcelona 6-1 PSG (6-5)

  2. Liverpool 3-3 AC Milan

  3. Liverpool 4-0 Barcelona (4-3)

  4. Deportivo La Coruna 4-0 AC Milan (5-4)

  5. Roma 3-0 Barcelona (*4-4)

  6. Man United 2-1 Bayern Munich

  7. Ajax 2-3 Tottenham (3-3*)

  8. Chelsea 4-1 Napoli (5-4)

  9. PSG 1-3 Man United (3-3*)

  10. Real Madrid 3-0 Wolfsburg (3-2)
