Is Man City-Arsenal the new title rivalry?

Man City and Arsenal have been challenging for the Premier League title for the last two seasons and this year they really pushed each other close. Is this onw the new title rivalry?

We've seen a few title rivalries over the years such as Man United's rivalry with Arsenal under Ferguson and Wenger and Man City's recent rivalry with Liverpool under Guardiola and Klopp. With Liverpool undergoing another year in transition and both Chelsea and Man United being far away from challenging for the title, City and Arsenal could be the next rivalry in line.

City are no doubt going to be up there again next season because of the team they are and the manager they have in Pep Guardiola. Arsenal meanwhile are only going to get better as they have a young squad of players who will be determined to go one better next season.

The Gunners will definitely add to their squad in the summer because Mikel Arteta will want to get his side over the line as to winning a Premier League title. They've made huge progress this season and missing out on the title again next season will only motivate them to do better next season.

If City carry on being the team they are and if Arsenal improve their squad in the summer, we could have a new rivalry on our hands.

Is staying in the Premier League now becoming harder?

For the first times since the 1997/98 season, all three of the newly promoted clubs have gone straight back down. Luton were the latest of three to drop back in the Championship following their 4-2 defeat to Fulham on the final day which enabled them to join Sheffield United and Burnley in the second tier next season.

With all three of them having gone down after just a season, is staying in the Premier League now becoming harder?

Staying in the Premier League is always tough for newly promoted teams because the level is much higher than it is in the Championship due to the quality being greater. Also the majority of the clubs in the league have more money which makes it difficult for the newly promoted clubs to recruit players of Premier League quality or experience.

The former was definitely the case with the newly promoted clubs from this season as none of them had the quality and they all got punished for it on a number of occasions.

The clubs coming up next season in Leicester, Ipswich and either Leeds or Southampton will need to take not of and learn from this heading into next season if any of them are to survive.

Klopp leaving Liverpool in good hands

Jurgen Klopp managed Liverpool for the final time on Sunday as he signed off his Liverpool reign with a 2-0 win over Wolves. Incoming manager Arne Slot will of course have a big job on his hands when he takes over in the summer because of the man he is replacing in Klopp who leaves the club with such a big legacy. But Klopp still leaves the club in good hands and in a good place.

He certainly leaves Liverpool in a better place than Man United when Sir Alex Ferguson left and Arsenal when Arsene Wenger left. That is because Liverpool have some good young players coming through and in their squad who they can build their team around in the future.

When Ferguson left Man United in 2013, some of the players in the squad were in the latter stages of their careers like Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic and Patrice Evra. Arsenal on the other hand when Wenger left in 2018, were a club in decline and had a number of underperforming players in their squad.

The new manager won't have to deal with these sort of issues as the reds have been up there challenging for the title over the last few years, have players that are at a good age and are more than capable of playing at a high level.

This will only be good news for the new manager who has a decent chance of carrying on the good work that Jurgen Klopp did.

Crystal Palace finally have consistent goal scorer in Mateta

Crystal Palace's main problem for the last many years has been a lack of a consistent goal scorer up top who can score 10+ goals a season. They finally have that player now in Jean-Philippe Mateta who ended the season in fine form, scoring 9 goals in the final 6 games of the season which enabled him to end the season as the Eagles' top goal scorer with 16.

He's been completely transformed since Oliver Glasner took over and his goal tally can very much back that up as well as his overall performances. He rounded off the season with a hat trick in Palace's 5-0 win over Aston Villa on the final day and he'll head into next season with plenty of confidence knowing that he's going to be a key player for them moving forward.

Having Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise around him has definitely helped him as both players have provided him the service to score the goals. Every striker needs service in order to score their goals and Mateta has had players who have done that in Eze and Olise. Those three players have made Palace a brilliant team to watch over the last couple of months and if they can keep hold of all of them, they could have a good season next season.
