Liverpool rotation a sign of them being contenders

I asked if Liverpool were title contenders last weekend after their win at Wolves took them to the top of the league. They showed a sign of themselves being that against Crystal Palace as they made some changes to their starting line, and those changes stepped up on the day.

Kostas Tsimikas, Curtis Jones and Cody Gakpo all came in for Andrew Robertson, Dominik Szoboszlai and Luis Diaz respectively on the day, and all of them showed that they can step up when called upon.

Every title challenging team needs to have strength in depth in their squad in order to go the distance, and Liverpool showed that against Palace by being able to make those changes and the players coming in being able to deliver.

There will be times as the season progresses where they'll have to rotate their team because of the amount of games they'll have to play during the season. If they can continue to rotate players when they need to and keep their squad fresh, they could challenge.

O'Neil under pressure at Wolves

It's worrying times for Wolves at the moment. They're bottom of the league with just a single point to their name and they currently have the worst defence in the league, conceding 21 goals.

They were beaten 5-3 by Brentford at the weekend which Gary O'Neil described as the worst result of his managerial career. I think the Wolves gaffer is now under pressure.

I am still hoping that O'Neil can turn things around because he has proven himself to be more than good enough to manage in the Premier League over the last couple of seasons. But he needs to do it soon because as things stand, Wolves are set to be in a relegation battle.

Their performances haven't been that bad as they've been in a lot of their games this season. They also have players who score them enough goals in Hwang Hee Chan and Matheus Cunha.

But their main worry is at the back as they've let in more goals than any other side, like I mentioned earlier. One reason why they've struggled defensively is because they didn't replace Max Kilman, who left for West Ham in the summer. Their former captain has been a big miss for them this season as they miss his leadership on the pitch, as well as his defensive abilities.

Wolves haven't been at all helped by the fixture list as they've already had to face Arsenal, Chelsea, Newcastle, Aston Villa and Liverpool in five of their opening seven games. They have Man City in their next match after the international break.

Wolves have slightly more winnable fixtures after the City game and he'll be hoping that side can get points from those games. If they don't, it could be a long season for Wolves and he could find himself out of a job.

Spurs were Spursy

Spurs have been accused of being quite a lot over the years and their defeat at Brighton on Sunday was an example of it. They appeared to have the game wrapped up at half time after a dominant and controlled first half display. Only to throw it out the window in the second half as Brighton came from behind to win the game.

Spurs were at it in the first half against Brighton as they started on the front foot, pressed their opponents high and took a deserved two goal lead into half time.

The second half was the complete opposite. They sat off Brighton instead of going after them and after conceding early in the second half, Brighton grew into the game and later took control before going on to claim the points.

Spurs thought that they had the game won by half time because of how dominant they were during the first half. They certainly played like it in the second half as they gave Brighton more time on the ball and gave them a route back into the game, by conceding early in the half.

Spursy has been a word used to describe Spurs' form when they've been on a good run before their form takes a dip.

This might be the first time I've used it to describe a game. After looking in control in the first half followed by a drop off in the second half, this game was very much a Spursy performance from Spurs.
