Man United's recruitment has been questionable and heavily criticized since Sir Alex Ferguson left and it's once again come under the spotlight this season.

Due to that fact, I'm now going to decide which signings have been a hit and which signings have been a miss.

Guillermo Varela

The first signing of the post Fergie era. He never featured much during his time at the club and was soon sent back to his native Uruguay.

VERDICT: MISS

Marouane Fellaini

Fellaini was an absolute flop during his first season at United. But throughout his time at the club, he did prove himself to be an important player, especially under Van Gaal and Mourinho. He put in some solid performances in midfield and also popped up with some important goals. I'd say he was a mixed bag.

VERDICT: BIT OF BOTH

Juan Mata

Mata had his moments in a United shirt, including his double and bicycle kick against Liverpool in 2015. But he didn't produce enough in a United shirt overall in my opinion. He didn't feature much towards the end of his time at the club due to other players being preferred, but for me he still didn't deliver enough.

VERDICT: MISS

Ander Herrera

Herrera was one of United's better signings post-Fergie as he put in many good displays in midfield. He was a good passer of the ball, could score goals could do the other side of the game as well. He was even named United's player of the season for the 2016/17 season and rightly so.

VERDICT: HIT

Luke Shaw

He has had his injury troubles since he's been at United, including that big one he picked up in 2015, but when fit Shaw has been one of the best full backs in the Premier League. It did take him time to find his form after recovering from that horrific as he was publicly criticized by Mourinho, but once he did he forced his way back into the England squad.

VERDICT: HIT

Marcos Rojo

He was never really a regular at United and he didn't put in too many fantastic displays either. He did have a number of injuries, but he never really convinced during his time at United.

VERDICT: MISS

Angel Di Maria

Di Maria arrived for a then record transfer of £59 million when he joined from Real Madrid, but he didn't live up to it. He got off to a promising start, but his performances later took one big nosedive. Eh was never settled in England and he didn't adjust to Premier League football.

VERDICT: MISS

Daley Blind

Blind was signed as a defensive midfielder when he first joined United, but was used more in defence. He looked pretty solid in defence as he was strong and could read the game well. He did a job both as a centre back and as a left back.

VERDICT: HIT

Radamel Falcao

Massive flop. He was a great player on his day as he was a brilliant goal scorer, but not at United. He never adjusted to Premier League football and it was no surprise that his loan deal wasn't extended. I don't know why United signed him in the first place as they already had Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie at the club.

VERDICT: MISS

Victor Valdes

Why did United even sign him. He barely played and was soon released from the club just six months after he arrived.

VERDICT: MISS

Memphis Depay

Depay was dubbed by some people as the new Ronaldo when he arrived as one of the most exciting young players around. But he turned out to be a big disappointment as he scored just 2 league goals and was sold to Lyon a season and a half later.

VERDICT: MISS

Matteo Darmian

He started well, but his performances soon took a massive dip and he found himself out of the team. First team opportunities were soon limited for him and he was never able to win his place back..

VERDICT: MISS

Morgan Schneiderlin

I don't remember much about Schneiderlin's time at United, other than he contributed very little. He wasn't good enough to play for the club and was soon sold to Everton, where he was arguably worse.

VERDICT: MISS

Bastian Schweinsteiger

Schweinsteiger's best days were behind him at United. He might've been a better signing had they got him a few years earlier where he was one of the best midfielders around.

VERDICT: MISS

Sergio Romero

He mostly played in the cup competitions due to David De Gea being the clear no.1. But when called upon, he rarely disappointed. But I still question United's decision to sign him when they already had De Gea.

VERDICT: HIT

Anthony Martial

Martial arrived as one of the most exciting young players around and for a record fee for a teenager. He had a brilliant debut season and did show flashes of his potential after that, but he didn't deliver on a consistent basis. Despite having his moments, he was still a disappointment.

VERDICT: MISS

Eric Bailly

Bailly looked like an assured defender when he first arrived at Old Trafford as he made such a solid start. But he was soon badly let down by injuries and lack of form, which saw him drop down the pecking order and out of the club.

VERDICT: MISS

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

One of the better signings that were made. He might've been heading towards the twilight years of his career when he arrived, but in his first season Zlatan proved that age was just a number as he went on to score 17 goals. He might've been around for a season, but he still made a big enough impact in that sole season.

VERDICT: HIT

Henrikh Mkhitaryan

He showed flashes of his potential at times, but he didn't show enough consistently with his scorpion kick against Sunderland being his only notable highlight. He was later part of one of the worst swap deals ever when he replaced Alexis Sanchez at Arsenal, where he was arguably worse.

VERDICT: MISS

Paul Pogba

Pogba came back to United as the world's most expensive player at £89 million, but he never really lived up to it. He did have his moments where he showed how good player he was, but he didn't show it enough on a consistent basis.

VERDICT: MISS

Romelu Lukaku

Lukaku scored a good number of goals during his first season at the club, but he didn't have a great record against the so-called bigger teams. He later found himself on the bench when Solskjaer took over before leaving the club for Inter Milan.

VERDICT: MISS

Victor Lindelof

He's never been good enough for United ever since he walked through the door. He did have some good games under Solskjaer, but overall he's been a big disappointment as he's made too many errors.

VERDICT: MISS

Nemanja Matic

Matic was very good in his first season as he made such a difference for them in midfield. But after that his legs were gone and was no longer the player he was.

VERDICT: MISS

Alexis Sanchez

Probably the worst one of the lot. Sanchez came in as part of the swap deal with Henrikh Mkhitaryan which didn't work out for both clubs. He was a shadow of the player he was at Arsenal and it was no surprise that he was sent out to Inter Milan.

VERDICT: MISS

Diogo Dalot

Dalot has been one of United's few standout performers in recent years by offering a threat going forward. He didn't feature much in the beginning as he was a young player, but now he's United's first choice right back.

VERDICT: HIT

Fred

Fred was a massive disappointment in his first season, but he did later improve and become a valuable squad player. His energy in midfield made him an important player during his final two or three season at the club even when people were still doubting him.

VERDICT: BIT OF BOTH

Lee Grant

He was never expected played much as he was brought in as their third choice keeper. He was just there to make up the numbers.

VERDICT: MISS

Daniel James

James made a good start to life at Old Trafford that he featured heavily during the opening months of his time there. But he struggled to replicate the form he showed early on and was soon sold to Leeds after losing his place in the team.

VERDICT: MISS

Aaron Wan Bissaka

Throughout his time at Old Trafford, Wan Bissaka was very good defensively but not as good going forward. His defending in one-on-one situations was top class but his final ball often let him down a lot. I'd say he was a mixed bag.

VERDICT: BIT OF BOTH

Harry Maguire

Maguire's time at United has been one rollercoaster. He's received a lot of criticism, both from supporters and the media, and he's been through both good and bad spells in terms of form. The resilience he's showed this past year after a tough couple of years has been incredible and shows how strong a personality he is. I'd say he's been a mixed bag as he's had both good and bad moments in a United shirt.

VERDICT: BIT OF BOTH

Bruno Fernandes

By far the best signing United have made post Fergie. Fernandes made such a massive difference when he first came to United as he brought some much needed creativity to the team and a goal threat from midfield. Without him, I don't know where United would be.

VERDICT: HIT

Odion Ighalo

Ighalo was brought in on a short term deal due to the lack of strikers United had available at the time. He didn't make much of an impact though as he only scored 5 goals in all competitions.

VERDICT: MISS

Donny Van De Beek

Why did United even sign him? He was never given a chance and was never going to get much of a look in due to Bruno Fernandes being preferred in the no.10 position.

VERDICT: MISS

Edinson Cavani

His time at Old Trafford may have ended following the return of Ronaldo, but in his first season, Cavani was effective as he scored a lot of important goals both as a starter and from the bench. HIs experience was massively beneficial for the younger players in the squad.

VERDICT: HIT

Jadon Sancho

Sancho arrived at United as one of the most exciting young players in Europe after a few impressive season at Borussia Dortmund. But the move to United didn't work out as he didn't fit in to the style of football and later had a falling out with Erik Ten Hag. He's now on loan at Chelsea where he's actually thriving in a system that suits him.

VERDICT: MISS

Tom Heaton

Heaton was at United as a youngster and came back to be their third choice keeper. He's only been there to make up the numbers and help the young players coming through.

VERDICT: MISS

Raphael Varane

He did have a lot of injuries during his time at Old Trafford, but when fit, Varane showed how quality a centre half he is. He had a good partnership with Lisandro Martinez in defence during Ten Hag's first season and there were games last season where he looked very solid.

VERDICT: HIT

Cristiano Ronaldo

United didn't need to bring Ronaldo back as his return had a negative impact on how they played. But he did still score 18 league goals that season and show that he's still an effective player at 37 years of age. He did leave under a cloud following his controversial interview with Piers Morgan, but he still showed that he can still deliver at the highest level.

VERDICT: HIT

Christian Eriksen

Eriksen had a decent first season at United as he brought some extra creativity to the team and showed that he can still play at a high level after his cardiac arrest at Euro 2020. But he hasn't been the same player since as he's not having the same influence on games as he used to.

VERDICT: MISS

Tyrell Malacia

Malacia made a decent start to life at Old Trafford and was briefly first choice ahead of Luke Shaw. But since the beginning of last year, the opportunities have been limited due to injuries. It's hard to judge him as he hasn't been around much over the last year.

VERDICT: N/A

Lisandro Martinez

Martinez looked very good in his debut season as he formed a strong partnership with Raphael Varane in defence silenced his doubters over his height. He has struggled this season after missing a lot of last season through injury, but when he was fit, he made a difference for United.

VERDICT: HIT

Casemiro

Casemiro made such a difference to United in his first season, but since then he hasn't been the same player. His best days are well and truly behind him and I'm surprised that the club didn't move him on in the summer.

VERDICT: MISS

Antony

What a waste of money. Antony cost United £82 million when he joined from Ajax two summers ago and he hasn't lived up to it since. He's been frustrating to watch and has done more rainbow flicks than goals he's scored.

VERDICT: MISS

Martin Dubravka

What was the point in United making this signing? Dubravka came in as back up to David De Gea and after making three appearances in the Carabao Cup, his loan deal was later terminated.

VERDICT: MISS

Jack Butland

Another player United didn't need to sign. Butland came in as cover for De Gea after Martin Dubravka's contract was cancelled, but he didn't play a single game.

VERDICT: MISS

Wout Weghorst

I never saw the point in United signing Weghorst as he wasn't a top quality centre forward. His short loan spell proved it as he failed to score in the league and offered the team very little in terms of a goal threat.

VERDICT: MISS

Marcel Sabitzer

He put in some decent displays during his short loan spell and stepped up whilst Christian Eriksen was out injured. Arguably the best loan signing despite only playing a handful of games.

VERDICT: HIT

Mason Mount

He has had a lot of injuries since he's been at United, but when he's played, Mount has not delivered. He's never been used in a position or system that suits him and he's struggled because of that.

VERDICT: MISS

Andre Onana

Onana has been a mixed bag if I'm being perfectly honest. He's made a number of costly mistakes, but has kept his team in games on several occasions. United might be much lower down the table if it wasn't for him despite the costly errors he's made.

VERDICT: BIT OF BOTH

Rasmus Hojlund

Hojlund's time at United so far has been rather mixed. He's had some promising moments in terms of what he can offer as a centre forward, but I think the jury is still out for him as to whether he's a good enough striker for Man United.

VERDICT: BIT OF BOTH

Jonny Evans

Evans originally returned to the club to keep himself fit after being released by Leicester. He later signed a permanent contract and has performed well ever since. His experience has been beneficial for the younger players in the team and has stepped up when required.

VERDICT: HIT

Sergio Reguilon

Reguilon was brought in due to both Shaw and Malacia being injured. He never really stepped up during his short loan spell and was later sent out on another loan spell by Spurs to Brentford, after making just nine league appearances for United.

VERDICT: MISS

Sofyan Amrabat

Amrabat was an absolute star at the World Cup in Qatar a couple of years ago as he was a key player in Morocco reaching the semi finals. He was a shadow of that player at United as the league was too quick for him and he struggled to replicate the form he showed in Qatar.

VERDICT: MISS

Leny Yoro

He's yet to make an appearance for United since joining in the summer after picking up an injury in pre-season. He'll be one for the future for sure.

VERDICT: N/A

Joshua Zirkzee

Many people are already questioning him in terms of whether he's good enough to be a Man United striker. He's shown very little signs of doing so since joining from Bologna, despite scoring on his debut against Fulham.

VERDICT: MISS

Matthijs De Ligt

Ten Hag signed De Ligt having worked with him at Ajax. He hasn't performed at the level he performed at back then and especially since he's been at United, where he's been a big disappointment so far.

VERDICT: MISS

Noussair Mazraoui

I haven't seen a lot of him this season, but from what I have heard, he's neither been a success or a failure. Maybe he needs more time.

VERDICT: N/A
