Talking Points of the Weekend

Wolves' decision to sack Lage was not a surprise

Wolves sacked Bruno Lage at the weekend a day after their defeat to West Ham with the club in the bottom three and with just one win to their name this season. It wasn't a surprise given the poor start they've had and there are a few reasons behind his sacking.

One of them is no doubt their lack of goals which was their main problem last season and has been again this season. They've scored just 3 goals this season which is fewer than any other team in the league and only the teams that got relegated scored fewer than them last season. They played some good football at times and have some very good forward players but they haven't been clinical enough in front of goal.

The departure of Conor Coady is another reason as they're missing his leadership and presence in their backline. Letting someone of his quality go was strange because of how crucial he has been for them over the years and to let him go on loan was even more baffling. You could see why they let him go in that Lage was moving from a back three to a back four which is a system that some say he doesn't suit. But letting him go was still strange because of how important he has been for them. Coady himself has even gone on to show that he is good enough to play in a four at Everton.

How many records will Erling Haaland break?

After already scoring 14 league goals after just 8 league games, Erling Haaland is on course to break some records. But the question is how many and what records will he break? He has a chance of breaking at least two in the all time Premier League goal record and the record for most goals in a Premier Leaghue season.

He's already been backed to break Alan Shearer's all time Premier League goal record which currently stands at 260. After netting twice on his debut against West Ham, Shearer himself even tweeted "258 to go" counting down how many goals Haaland needs to catch him. If the Norweigian can carry on scoring goals the way he is and stay in this league long enough for him to break that record, he's in with a very good chance of doing so.

After the start he's made and the current rate he's scoring goals at, he has a very good chance of breaking the record for most goals in a season. Mohamed Salah holds the record for a 38 game season with 32 from the 2017/18 season whilst Andy Cole and Alan Shearer hold the overall record with 34. Cole reached that tally in the 1993/94 season whilst Shearer reached that tally in the 1994/95 season. If he carries on scoring goals at the rate he is, he has a very good chance of breaking both.

Man United still miles behind City

Man United were showing signs of improvement going into the Manchester Derby on Sunday after a terrible start. But were soon brought back down to earth with a crushing 6-3 defeat where their performance showed that they're still miles away from competing with City.

There was no work rate off the ball as they rarely put City under pressure and there was no organisation anywhere on the pitch. It was reminiscent of their performances very early in the season and particularly their opening two games where they lost to Brighton and Brentford. They had the same problems in those games as they did against City on Sunday in that their work rate was poor and there was no organisation. They were up against a very good City side but they still could've put in a much better performance to try and limit the damage. It was a shambolic performance and it showed that they still have a long way to go to catching them.

Are Leicester beginning to turn their season around?

Leicester finally got off the mark last night with their 4-0 win over Nottingham Forest where they really looked more like the team we know they are. With the result being massive along with the performance they put in; Are they beginning to turn their season around?

The Foxes have been a team low on confidence this season and that win will certainly give them plenty of it. Their performance will as well as they were a threat whenever they went forward and they also played like a team which they haven't done all season. Defensively they looked much better as they kept a much needed clean sheet and looked more organised as a team plus they were clinical in front of goal when they had their chances.

If they can play like that in their next few games which are all winnable, their season could well be turning itself around and especially if they win those games coming up.
